I-40
is supposed to be an west-east Interstate. In North Carolina it is — up
to Raleigh. Then it turns south to Wilmington on the Atlantic Coast. If
you are going to Hatteras or elsewhere on the Outerbanks you have some
limited choices of 2-lane roads and many small towns to traverse. It
really helps us appreciate our American Interstate system!

It
seems that just about every community in North Carolina has a tourist
attraction. Most are historic in nature, primarily Revolutionary War and
Civil War (excuse us... 'War Between the States' — it was anything but civil.)
As
you approach the coast you'll find it gets warmer - and - you'll
encounter more annoying flying insects. Sorry! |
