Santa Fe (meaning the Holy Faith) is an ancient city nestled at an
elevation of 7,000 feet in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo
mountains. It was established in 1610 and is the oldest capital city in
the United States.
Santa Fe is arts and culture. Concerts are famous the world over as
is their opera venues. Art galleries are legion and include local,
contemporary, Native American and the classical painting. A walk down
Santa Fe's famous Canyon Road is a tour through a multi-faceted art
gallery interspersed with a wide variety of restaurants. You don't want to
miss this opportunity while visiting Santa Fe.
Then there are the museums - mostly preserving artifacts of Spanish
Colonial and Native American periods but not limited thereto. Besides the
wide variety of subjects, there are two other sites we strongly recommend:
Palace of the Governors
Built in the seventeenth century as the official residence of the Governor
of New Mexico, the Palace now contains a library, archives and offers
exhibits including sixteenth century weapons and furniture.

St Francis Cathedral
The cathedral, built by Jean Baptiste Lamy, the first archbishop of Santa
Fe, is on Cathedral Place, around the corner from the Santa Fe Plaza.
