| Eastbound
folks exiting Salt Lake City find I-80 now winds up Parley's Canyon and
over the divide (7,000 feet). On the west (Salt Lake City side of the
divide the waterways drain into Great Salt Lake. On the east side,
however, they drain into the Green River which joins the Colorado in its
attempt to reach the Gulf of California before all the water disappears.
(Yes, all that water and it just isn't enough!) Park City is primarily a resort area - for winter sports (especially skiing). This was the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics and it has been expanded since. Park City is not the 5th largest ski resort in the United States and the closest, by far, to a major international airport (Salt Lake City). So what does this mean to a family driving through on I-80 and looking for an overnight stop? Keep going. There are better, and much less expensive, places to stay along I-80. |
