Virginia,
the Old Dominion State, currently uses the slogan: "Virginia
is for Lovers". And, to be sure, there is much romantic about
Virginia. As one of the original 13 colonies (and site of the first,
successful, permanent settlement by the English) there is a strong sense
of history and many restored pre-Revolutionary War buildings staffed by costumed guides.
Virginia
appears to pride itself on orderliness and neatness. The Interstates not
only are replete with flowers but they are beautifully landscaped and,
noticeably, missing those omnipresent billboards. Virginia also patrols
its
highways very carefully — and strictly. Not only is it unlawful to use a
'radar detector' but, though most drivers push the speed limit by 5 mph
or so, there really is no 'tolerance'. (And speeding fines can be very
expensive — even for first timers.)

We have included
many communities having attractions along I-81. As always, we look for
family-oriented attractions. And, as always, we appreciate any comments
you would care to share with us:

Cheaper Gas!
Another little note - exit 77 on I-81 has several gasoline stations and
they are usually much less expensive (not really cheap, but...) than the
others within 50 miles or so.
